Designing Riau Islands Province’s masterplan for economic development
This study is a collaboration between CEDS and the government of Riau Island Province to design a master plan for the acceleration of economic development of the province. Riau Islands Province is a relatively new province of Indonesia.
It consists of the principal group of the Riau Archipelago, together with other island groups to the south, east and northeast. Before 2004, it was part of the Riau Province. Its heart of the economy is the Batam city, a free trade zone, part of the Sijori growth triangle located only 20km of Singapore south coast. As government of Indonesia recently launched the new master plan for the acceleration of economic development (MP3EI) nationally. Riau Island Province needs to redesign its medium and long-term development strategy to meet this non-business-as-usual targets set by the national government.
